Bio
Mariam Megalla is a Brooklyn-based artist working primarily in acrylic paint. She has an MFA in Painting and Drawing from Brooklyn College. She has taught painting at Brooklyn College and currently teaches fine arts courses at St. Joseph's University. Her paintings inhabit an otherworldly space where fantasy, memory, and lived experience merge. Through saturated color and atmospheric storytelling, she creates visual narratives that preserve magical suspended moments and transform the everyday into something wondrous. She has been published in online publications such as Canvas Rebel and was a recipient of the Ravenal Artists Travel Grant in 2025.
Artist Statement
My paintings exist in another world where the everyday is charged with wonder, and the ordinary begins to feel surreal. They balance between lived experience and boundless imagination, creating spaces where intuition and possibility are free to flourish. In reflecting on these moments and in painting them, I reveal spaces where time softens, and something sacred begins to speak.
My paintings function as chapters to an ever-evolving narrative. Fantasy novels, folklore, and old storybooks provided me with a sense of safety as a child. In the worlds I create, I aspire to evoke and share that feeling. My paintings are spaces where anything and everything is possible. They become places of healing, transformation, and self-discovery that can unfold.
These paintings are both an escape and a return, a reflection of desires, and an eager quest to re-enchant the world.
